The Sikholars Graduate Student Conference is now inviting presentation proposals for Sikholars 2014, its fifth annual gathering to discuss topics in Sikh and Punjab studies taking place from February 15-16, 2014 at Stanford University in Stanford, California. The conference is sponsored by the Center for South Asia at Stanford University and Jakara Movement.

I find remarkable that the conference is already planning its fifth session. I still recall attending the first conference, and the 2013 conference is still fresh in my mind. The fact that the organizers are preparing for the fifth conference is a testament to the value of the conference and the momentum it has generated. I have been fortunate to attend all of the conferences thus far and am looking forward to attending the 2014 gathering.

According to the Call for Papers, the upcoming conference will again feature two special discussions in addition to other themes: one panel will focus on the 30th anniversary of the Indian army’s attack on Darbar Sahib, Sikhism’s spiritual center in June, 1984, and another panel will again feature technology and entrepreneurship, which was popular during the last conference.

Those interested in presenting their research are asked to submit their presentation proposals by October 31, 2013:

Proposals for individual papers should be no more than 250 words in length and may be uploaded at the conference website, with a current CV/resume.

More information is available at the Sikholars website (http://www.sikholars.org). You can also watch presentations from this past year’s conference on the Jakara Movement YouTube channel.
